Trumansburg boys soccer starts strong, Hodge reaches 200 wins

The Section IV fall season is well underway, and there have been quite a few teams around Tompkins County that have flown out of the gates. The Trumansburg boys soccer team certainly fits the criteria after winning its first five games, but one of those wins was a very significant one. On September 5, The Blue Raiders defeated Dryden 5-0 for head coach Jason Hodge's 200th career victory. He joins some elite company in the IAC boys soccer realm including Dryden's Laszlo Engel, Union Springs/Port Byron's Jim Hodges, and Marathon's Chip Stewart to reach that milestone. "It's been a really nice thing to start the season off," Hodge said. "It has been really special, and the guys on a team this year have really embraced it. We've celebrated, and now we're ready to move on and celebrate some team things."

First Time in 95 Years Edison Kicks off a Season!

After 95 years without the sport soccer was back at Thomas A. Edison High School on Wednesday night as the Spartans fell to Trumansburg. Al Northrop coached Edison boys soccer for two seasons 95 years ago in 1929 and 1930. Thats the last time the school played the sport, and the first time at the current school location and field. The Spartans fell to Trumansburg, a traditional IAC power, 12-0 on Wednesday. Duncan Gattine had four goals to lead Trumansburg. "It's been 95 years since we had soccer here," Edison coach Shawn Nugent said, before mentioning that its the first time on the current field. "We started with two modified seasons and we have made the jump to varsity this year. Super young and we are going to continue to improve." Nugent knows there is a lot the team can learn from each game. "Super excited. Super young. We have got lots of improvement and we are going to learn a lot from this match. We will be ready to play on Friday as well. We are home on Friday as well."
